Animal Lovers PDX web app

The Animal Lovers PDX web app (https://animalspdx.web.app) runs like an app on mobile devices, and like a website on laptop or desktop computers. You do not need to download anything, and you can still make a link to the web app on your home screen. Animal Lovers PDX is free and has no advertisements.

The information is arranged so as to be helpful to people who are trying to help animals. There is quick-access information for emergency veterinary care, including a map with emergency and 24-hour veterinary practices tagged. There is also an index of information for low and no-cost veterinary care. Animal rescue and adoption organizations are indexed, as well as farm animal sanctuaries in the area.

Plants Around Town App for Android

plantsfeatureimage2

“Plants Around Town” takes a look at some of the humble plants all around us that are often seen as just weeds. However, many of these plants have rich histories of helping to heal us and keep us healthy. This app will give the user a renewed appreciation for the plants growing along roadsides, out of the cracks in sidewalks, underneath mailboxes, and in untamed yards.

Currently, 18 common plants are profiled. Any additions will be included in future updates. There are many other apps that cover many more plants. This app focuses on commonly seen yet often overlooked unmanaged plants, and attempts to avoid overwhelming the user with information that may otherwise make it harder to identify very common plants.

This app aims to both help the user to identify the plant, and also give some interesting information about the plant and how it has been used medicinally. All information in this app is, of course, for educational use only and should not be seen as a substitute for knowledgeable medical help. I, the person who made this app, don’t really know much about this stuff at all. I just found it interesting and looked stuff up, trying to get good sources that have congruent information.

All pictures are taken in and around Portland, Oregon.

A glossary is also part of the app. Medicinal properties are defined, and links to plants that have that particular property are included at the end of the glossary entry.

Again, the information contained in this app is for educational use only, and not to be taken as a substitute for medical care.

Rabbit Advocates App for Android and iOS

RAfeatureimageNEW

For Android phones (and other devices).

Rabbit Advocates is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose volunteers specialize in educating the public about the care of domestic rabbits. We aim to place surrendered or abandoned rabbits in loving homes where they will be welcomed as family members. Rabbit Advocates operate an education and adoption website as well as a help line. We hold rabbit adoption outreach events and other activities at locations around the Portland Metro Area and hold monthly meetings.

The homescreen of the app has a list of upcoming events that can be updated by pressing the “refresh” button. Pages that contain information on monthly events feature thumbnail maps of the locations that will open Google Maps when pressed. Links to information on rabbit care,  adoptable rabbits, how to be a foster home for rabbits, and other information on the website can be found in this app as well.

Glass Walls Web App

feature graphic.png

Now you can share footage from Mercy For Animals undercover investigations with anyone, anywhere, anytime, on your mobile phone (or other device). Choose a food item from the menu, click the button, and see footage from the conditions in which the animal that comprises that food lived and died. Videos play in full screen when the device is held in landscape mode. Footage is from the Mercy For Animals film, “Farm to Fridge.”

“Glass Walls” was suspended from the Google Play app store for containing graphic images of what happens in slaughterhouses. This, of course, has not stopped VEWapps.

This app is now available as a web app. Click the icon below to be taken to the url from which you can run the app on your device.
